We are pretty sick to death of AI this and AI that. And, it's here to stay for a while. To be relevant, you might as well know why or why not you want to use AI.
Image apps have been around a long time. I've been using Waterlogue for 13 years. It is so fun to play around with. It takes your photos and turns them into watercolor like images.
With Toonapp you can turn yourself into an anime or cartoon star.
I use Canva every day to erase and recreate backgrounds, fix profile photos, change colors, density, warmth, shadow...
I watched a friend create a website image of an old west saloon, plop a bottle of this companies tequila on the bar and use amazing detail. It was so gorgeous! The richness and the mood and feel was dead on. Flair.ai
The possibilities are endless.
Everybody is using it. Some are landing in hot water.
Scandalous! And I get that, it's less expensive to use AI than pay real artists.
But even Legos with too many fingers is creepy.
As you can see in the above photo, jobseekers have been quick to adopt. It's so much less expensive to buy an app than hire a photographer, buy an outfit, hair, makeup, and whatever else.
You have to admit, they are pretty good.
If you would like to test your skill at determining AI vs. real, give this New York Times quiz a go.
There is a catch - you just about need to be an artist to create great AI images. You need to 'have the eye' and imagination to prompt the tool. You need to understand the color wheel, composition, and many other things.
I used to be a photographer and taught darkroom and I still come up short some days.
I have downloaded and deleted dozens of apps over the years. They are much improved now.
A year ago, I created AI images as a workaround to the penalty the LinkedIn algorithms gave stock photos. That no longer applies and I stopped doing it.
It takes a long time. It is honestly easier to find great stock photos.
BUT, you can't always find what you want and you have to know what you are looking for.
AI can fill in the gaps.
I find is far more useful to enhance photos than create them.
If you are thinking about diving into AI generated imagery, I recommend you find an app you really like and understand and then just work with it until you get good at it.
Like everything, there is a learning curve. It's a gentle curve. AI learns. It adapts to your prompts.
AI generated images are every where. They can be created in this CRM, Canva, Google, ChatGPT... I use DALL-E and Microsoft's Designer, also.
I work with high level professionals. I don't use AI for imagery for my marketing. I do use it for clients.
But I love the creativity of it. It's a rabbit hole. I mean, just look at that cow below. So fun!
If it's useful for you, dive in. The water is more than warm.
until next time...
