Two years ago, I asked my readers this question and received some great answers. Good enough to share again.
I have so many conversations every week and much of what I hear boils down to one thing - we all want more meaningful business relationships.
We are sick of wasting time and working so hard on Business Development.
We want the time we spend to mean something.
So, what is the goal of a LinkedIn Connection?
"For me, there are two reasons. One is to connect with people I’ve networked with – other professionals. A good example was a meeting I had yesterday with a person I have known for years. We had a Zoom meeting and went through our connections in common to see if we could help each other with making any useful introductions...
So I guess it’s really one reason for both cases – to help other people."
"The answer is "let's connect and support each other through our network".
~ Gabriela Castro
"Life is about relationships. A LinkedIn connection is the beginning of building a long term relationship with that individual."
~ Mark Bierle
"Add value, Angela, add value!"
The Goal of a LinkedIn Connection is -
to Create, Build and Nurture Relationships.
This little exercise is Question 1 of a 3 part series.
Question 2 -
What is the goal of your LinkedIn Profile?
To start a conversation.
If your profile is all about you, it's less likely to start a conversation. If your profile is about what you can do for others, about the problem you solve, it can generate many questions.
Your Profile should be client-focused, inviting and thought provoking.
How would you assess your profile?
Question 3 -
What is the goal of a LinkedIn post or article?
To get people to feel something and take action.
I read posts frequently that make me feel like I wasted my time, like, what was the point of that garbage?
A post should add value to the reader. It should make them feel something. It is a very high quality post if it inspires action.
Keep this in mind when you are on LinkedIn.
What can I do to nurture my relationships?
Will this start a conversation?
Will this cause someone to feel something and act?
Will this improve someone's business or life today?
Random acts of content kill brands.
