Labor Day Weekend, I decided I needed to challenge myself.
Like Alice, I am very skilled at finding rabbit holes to fall into. Almost a superpower. ChatGPT is my favorite rabbit hole.
“Compare and Contrast Reddit and Substack. What is each best at?”
Eleven queries later, I have a fleshed out strategy for using Substack, Reddit and TikTok to attract new audiences using video and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), and establish myself as a Thought Leader.
Nice work.
But then, someone has to do all that.
Reddit is a conundrum to me. It’s going to take a while to figure out. I am giving it 10 – 15 minutes first thing each day and endless questions to ChatGPT for best practices.
Reddit is not very friendly to newcomers. It takes a LOT of trial and error and consistent investment in time to crack that code.
Just this morning, Day 5, I had a breakthrough. I think I finally get it!
I joined a couple communities about LinkedIn and Marketing and I've answered a couple of questions. I've gotten several upvotes and earned some karma.
There is a whole lingo to each platform. It's fascinating.
The huge advantage of Reddit is AEO. It really feeds that whole machine.
Substack is a very slow burn. You need time to build authority and subscribers. This is a platform for long-form content. And, long term commitment. I've heard it's great for getting feedback when you developing new content.
If you care to follow me - here.
Honestly, TikTok is just annoying. How did any of those people develop a following?
It feels like an endless display of the worst content humanity has to offer.
I’m sure I just don’t get it. I need to customize my feed, etc. I have so little tolerance for violence and sensationalism.
I may have to pass on TikTok.
I'm focusing on Reddit right now. I've scheduled a bunch of content on Substack. I can hardly make myself go to TikTok.
But all of this is an experiment.
I am a LinkedIn snob.
I refuse to use FB & IG for business.
My people are on LinkedIn. So, that seems to be the best use of my time. We all only have so much bandwidth for business development.
And, I also have a responsibility to learn about other platforms so I can discuss them intelligently.
I would love to hear from you if you are genuinely interested in using any of those 3 platforms. And, stay posted. I will run this experiment until the end of the year.
